Suspect On The Lam 17 Years Is Nabbed
Bexar County has begun the process of extraditing a man from Tennessee who police said was on the run from a murder charge here for 17 years. Termeria Winthrop Jones, who police said also goes by the name of Terry Jones faces charges in a Nov 18 1991 slaying.
Authorities said they had no details on the case. Records show jones was arrested about four months after the killing and charged with murder, was released after posting $100,000 bail and failed to appear for trial in 1994.
The local and federal Safe Streets Task Force arrested him early Thursday in Memphis. We really don’t know what he was doing or how he was able to avoid detection for so long, said Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy Louis Antu.
Antu noted that federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents used cell phone traces to track jones movements from California to Tennesse. It as not clear how long jones was there before his arrest.
